'Tarique no longer a Bangladeshi citizen'

Yesterday in the parliament, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam reiterated that BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman had given up his Bangladeshi citizenship by “surrendering his passport”.

Participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2018-19, he claimed that Tarique's name was recently mentioned as a director of a British company (White and Blue Consultancy Limited) -- listing his nationality as “British”.

Shahriar Alam, however, said after four months of the incident, Tarique changed his British citizenship status to Bangladeshi. “Tarique Rahman is not a Bangladeshi citizen any more. Different agencies, including WikiLeaks, have also revealed the matter,” added the state minister.

Shahriar said BNP had served him a legal notice when he first revealed that Tarique had left his Bangladeshi citizenship. “Accepting their challenge, I have proven that Tarique Rahman is not a Bangladeshi citizen,” he said.
