Submit affidavit in three weeks
The Indian Supreme Court yesterday gave a three-week time to the government to submit an affidavit in connection with the murder of Felani Khatun by Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
The Indian apex court gave the time following a time petition of the state after hearing two writ petitions filed over the murder, said Advocate Abraham Lincoln, public prosecutor of the Kurigram court.
Fifteen-year-old Felani was gunned down by the BSF when she, along with her father, was returning home from India through Anantapur border along Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.
Although her father managed to get inside the Bangladesh border by scaling the barbed-wire fence, Felani was shot dead by a BSF man before she was able to do so. The ghastly photo of Felani's bloody body hanging from the barbwire upside down sparked an outcry of protest and condemnation.
After an investigation, the BSF submitted a charge sheet against its constable Amiya Ghosh, responsible for the shooting.
On August 19, 2013, a special court constituted by the BSF acquitted Amiya Ghosh. On November 16, 2014, a revision trial resumed at the court. However, the BSF man was once again acquitted.
Later, the victim's father appealed to the Indian SC against the judgement on July 13, 2015.
