BCL man 'assaults, kicks student out of dorm'
A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) allegedly beat up a student of drama and dramatics department, and forced him to leave his dormitory on Sunday as he had participated in the recent quota reform movement.
After the incident, the student, Ziaul Haque of Shaheed Rafiq-Jabber Hall, submitted a written complaint yesterday to the hall provost and university authorities.
The victim alleged that on Sunday morning, Obhishekh Mondal, organising secretary of JU unit of BCL, abused him and asked him to leave the dormitory.
Later, the BCL leader along with his accomplices physically assaulted him and drove him out of the dormitory.
“I was earlier slapped by Obhishekh during the quota reform movement on the campus and he asked me to leave the dormitory. I protested the incident according to quota reform committee of the university unit,” said Ziaul, adding that the BCL men also snatched his mobile phone.
Admitting the incident, BCL leader Obhishekh claimed that Ziaul is a Chhatra Dal activist. He said, “Ziaul's activities were suspicious and he was trying to create unrest on the campus.”
However, he denied snatching Ziaul's mobile phone.
Contacted, Provost Prof Sohel Ahmed said the acting provost will take necessary action following investigation.
