'Stop harassing your own peers'

Teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday demanded immediate stop to “harassment” of first year students in the name of ragging.

The demand was made from two separate press conferences on the campus by “Shikkhok Mancha” and “JU Teachers Association”.

They expressed deep concerned over the issue and visited different dormitories of the university to raise awareness among teachers and students.

The JU authorities yesterday echoed with teachers to ban ragging on the campus and warned students of severe punishment, including expulsion.

The announcement came after a first year student allegedly lost his mental balance after he was ragged by his senior fellows on the campus.

Mizanur Rahman, a first year student of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department was admitted to the university medical centre after the incident.
