Social responsibility to shape new leaders
Socially responsible students can become leaders adopting changes desired for the world, knowing that mistakes come with learning and defending ideals while collaborating with others to generate new ideas, said distinguished CEOs and academics yesterday. “You have to always choose the right partner to achieve your goals. The balance between work and life is also important,” said Nestle Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Stéphane Nordé.
One of Brac University's corporate advisory-board members, he said the important things to be a leader involve being positive and passionate, collaborating internally and externally and making a difference.
Associate Professor Mohammed Tareque Aziz of Brac Business School's Relationship Marketing & Retailing emphasised that relating what was learned in classrooms to real world scenarios was important.
The speakers were sharing experiences from classrooms and corporate environments at the school's interactive session “Coffee with the CEOs”, themed “Bangladesh: a country of opportunities for entrepreneurs and graduates”, at Brac University's residential campus in Savar.
Some 200 people, mostly business students, attended the daylong initiative, taken up as part of efforts to build strong relations in corporate-academia tie-ups and enlighten young minds in their first-year of tertiary education and instil in them a sense of belonging and responsibility for the nation.
Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Rupali Chowdhury reminded that just ideas were not good enough as those have to be communicated to and heard by others.
She talked about tangible materials and fame which encourages effort, saying one has to find the suitable one and work on lackings to achieve goals while bonding with people to get ideas, comprehending systems and mechanisms and defending existing ideals.
Prof Salehuddin Ahmed of the school stressed on the necessity of students who are empathetic and socially responsible. The school's Adviser Prof Rahim B Talukdar also spoke.
