PM wants campaign for smart ID cards
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said Smart NID Cards will help contain crime and corruption in the country besides making both public and private organisations more dynamic.
The Prime Minister made the comment after Director General and Project Director of the Smart NID Project Brig Gen Sultanuzzaman Mohammed Saleh Uddin made a power-point presentation on its features at the premier's office in the capital.
Hasina asked the authorities concerned to carry out campaign to make people aware of the benefits of the Smart NID Cards which will be introduced by the Election Commission soon. The Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction over the progress of the ongoing project.
The project director said a database of over nine crore people has been developed for the introduction of the card and also highlighted the technical design and 25 security features of the cards which have been made in three tiers to check fake ID cards. He also mentioned that each card will last for at least 10 years and the overall activities of the project have been expanded up to upazila and thana levels. After the presentation, PM's Press Secretary Ihasanul Karim briefed reporters.
