Sign language institute soon: Menon

Terming sign language a very essential way to help mute and deaf people to communicate, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday said a sign language institute will be established soon.

The minister came up with the remark in his speech as chief guest at a programme on the occasion of Bangla Sign Language Day, in the capital's Agargaon. Some 160,000 affected individuals living in the country communicate in sign language, creating the need for establishing the institute, he added. Praising the initiatives undertaken by the ruling government, the minister urged all concerned to work for spreading Bangla sign language.
