Shopping mall fined in Ctg for not having fire safety clearance
A mobile court of Chittagong District Administration yesterday fined the owner of “Central Plaza” shopping mall at GEC intersection in Chittagong city for not having fire safety clearance certificate.
The owner was given a month to get the clearance certificate, Executive Magistrate Tahmilur Rahman.
On last June 28, a teenage boy was killed and another injured in a fire incident which also gutted about 40 shops.
In the morning, the same court also visited Tamakumondi Lane which is a hub for over 3,000 shops and is highly prone to fire accidents and earthquakes, said Tahmilur.
They detected various problems, including live electric wires, building with unauthorised designs, narrow lanes, and absence of fire fighting equipment.
The traders’ representatives and building owners will be called to the office of Chittagong Deputy Commissioner soon to resolve the problems, he added.
