Serve, not harass

President Abdul Hamid yesterday directed the police to ensure maximum services without any harassment as the people choose police as their last resort.
"The peace-loving people in this country usually do not go to police stations. They go to police after they become very helpless," Hamid said at the annual dinner, arranged marking the Police Week 2018 in Bangladesh Auditorium in the capital's Rajarbagh Police Lines.
It is the constitutional right of the people to get police service; it is neither a favour nor a charity, he added.
The people will get full confidence in police and consider them as their friends when they will get expected services, he added.

The police has also important roles to play in the country's socio-economic development by maintaining law and order, providing protection to public lives and property and establishing the rule of law.
It is noticed in newspapers that the cybercrime is rising gradually and those involved in the crimes are mostly from juvenile and young generation.
"Drug addiction and abuse lead the young generation to crimes. So, police will have to take zero tolerance policy against drug abuse," he added.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Secretary to Public Security Division Mostafa Kamal Uddin and Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque were also present in the function.
