SC stays Shah Alam bail order

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed for four weeks a High Court order that granted bail to Shah Alam, an accused in an arms and ammunition recovery case filed last year.

Police on October 24 last year recovered 22 foreign pistols, 45 magazines and 136 bullets from a house at Shankarbati in Chapainawabganj. Police then filed a case against Alam and unnamed persons with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station in connection with the recovery.

Alam was arrested on November 16 last year. The HC granted him bail on this December 14.

Yesterday's order was passed after hearing a petition filed by the government seeking a stay.

Alam cannot get released from jail following the SC order, Deputy Attorney General Motaher Hossain Sazu told The Daily Star.
