SC stays HC bail of Manna
The Supreme Court today stayed till October 30 a High Court order that had granted bail to Nagorik Oikyo Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a sedition case.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order following a petition filed by the government seeking a stay on the HC judgment.
The HC on August 30 granted bail to Manna on the grounds that he has been in captivity for 18 months but no charge sheet has so far been submitted.
Manna was arrested on February 25 last year, a day after his two telephone conversations with BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka about strengthening the anti-government movement, among many issues, were leaked.
Manna is also an accused of another case filed for instigating the armed forces to topple the government.
