Intern doctors of Sher-E-Bangla Medical College in Barisal called off their strike yesterday following assurances from authorities to ensure workplace safety.

“The authorities assured to ensure safety and security of the doctors so we called off strike, said Dr Raju Ahamed, president of SBMC Intern Doctors Association.

The decision came after a meeting held with Divisional Commissioner, District Administration, police administration and Intern Doctor Assocision (IDA).

The strike began after a pregnant woman died at SBMC on Thursday night. Her relatives swooped on the doctors and damaged properties belonging to the hospital.

This led to an altercation between the two groups and resulted into a 35 hour long strike by the intern doctors.
