‘Robber’ killed in Rajshahi 'gunfight'
An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members in Rajshahi city early today.
Deceased Kawsar Hossain, 45, was the principal accused in four cases including two murders, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Maj AM Ashraful Islam of Rab-5.
Sensing presence of a Rab-5 team, the suspected robbers opened fire on the elite force members at Budhpara around 2:45am prompting them to retaliate triggering a “gunfight”, the Rab officer said.
After the gang left the scene, the elite force members found Kawsar with bullet injuries and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Maj Ashraful said.
Two Rab members sustained minor injuries during the “gunfight” and were given first aid at the hospital.
Rab members also seized a foreign pistol, a magazine loaded with four bullets, a knife and a large machete from the spot.
