Road crashes kill three
Three people were killed and another was injured in road accidents in the country yesterday.
Staff correspondent of Chittagong reports, an unidentified woman was killed on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Bhatiyari area under Sitakunda Police Station early yesterday.
Locals spotted the body of the woman, who was in her thirties, on the highway's Bhatiyari BM Gate area and informed police around 4:30am, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baro Awalia Highway Police Station Ahsan Habib.
Police sent the body to Chittagong Medical College morgue.
An unidentified vehicle might have run her over leaving her face complete disfigured, said police. A case was lodged.
Our Comilla correspondent adds, a truck driver was killed and his helper was injured when a truck veered out of control and hit another truck from behind at Miabazar of Chauddagram upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was Abdul Aziz, 52, son of late Fazal Mia of Gomandhon of Hathhazari upazila. Injured Md Hasan was admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, a schoolgirl was killed when a Rangpur-bound ambulance hit her while she was crossing the Panchagarh-Dhaka highway at Dhonipara village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh yesterday afternoon.
The victim was Arjina Khatun, 11, daughter of Abul Kalam of Dhonipara village and a class-V student of Gaighata Government Primary School.
Protesting the incident, agitating locals barricaded the road for two and a half hours from 2:30pm demanding arrest of the driver. Later, they freed the road getting assurance from police.
Hundreds of vehicles got stranded on both sides of the road, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
