Road accidents claim seven lives
At least seven people were killed and 40 others injured in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.
In Gopalganj, four people including a woman died after a Bagarhat-bound bus collided head-on with a brick loaded truck on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Kashiani upazila, police said.
The deceased were identified as Shajahan Mollah, 50, Shohag Talukder, 20, Md. Noyen Mollah, 22, and Shilpi Somadar, 62, the president of Zila Mohila Parishad in Bagerhat.
Shahjahan and Shohag died on spot, while Shipli and Noyen succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, police added.
The injured 14 were taking treatment at local hospitals.
In Chittagong, truck driver Abul Kashem and Mohammad Kasem were killed when their truck lost control and collided with an oil tanker in Sitakunda upazila, police said. The incident left one person injured.
Also, in Brahmanbaria, motorcyclist Dulu Mia, 32, was killed on spot after being hit by a pickup van near Shahpur bus stand area on Kuti-Kasba road on Monday, reports our local correspondent.
The body has been sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, 25 people were injured in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon when a Joypurhat bound passenger bus lost control and fell on a roadside ditch on Joypurhat-Naoagaon highway, reports our correspondent.
The injured were taking treatment in local hospitals.
