Remand of cricketer Shahadat sought
Investigators yesterday sought a seven-day remand to question cricketer Shahadat Hossain regarding the allegation against him of torturing his domestic help.
Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mirpur Model Police Station, submitted the petition with the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
The court fixed today for holding hearing.
Earlier on Monday, a Dhaka court sent suspended national cricketer Shahadat Hossain to jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail in a case filed for torturing his 11-year-old domestic help.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yousuf Hossain passed the order considering the seriousness of the allegations brought against him in the first information report of the case.
Shahadat surrendered two days after his wife Jesmine Jahan Nrittya had been arrested.
On September 6, domestic help Mahfuza Akhtar Happy brought allegations of torture by Shahadat and his wife. Later, a case was filed against the couple with Mirpur Police Station.
