Rana denied bail in building code violation case
The High Court yesterday denied bail to Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza, in a case filed over the nine-storey building collapse at Savar in April, 2013 that killed at least 1,138 people.
The court rejected his bail petition, considering that it was not properly moved before the court.
Savar Pourasava authorities filed the case with Savar Model Police Station on April 24, 2013 against Sohel Rana and several others for constructing the building without Rajuk's plan and in violation of the rules and provisions of the Bangladesh National Building Code, which caused death of the people.
Sohel Rana's lawyer Helaluddin Mollah told The Daily Star yesterday his client recently filed the bail petition with the HC, saying that he has been in the custody for more than two years.
