Prosecution presses charges against 5

Prosecution yesterday pressed charges against five men from Sherpur and Comilla, including a former army official who allegedly worked for the Pakistani army in 1971, in two cases filed over committing crimes during the Liberation War.

In a case, prosecutors Abul Kalam and Tapas Kanti Baul pressed three charges against Muhamed Shahidullah, also known as Capt Shahidullah, of Daudkandi upazila in Comilla.

In another case, Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman submitted four charges against four Sherpur men.

They are SM Aminuzzaman Faruk, 58; AKM Akram Hossain, 62; Emdadul Haque alias Kwaza Doctor, 74; and Mokhlesur Rahman Tara, 66, of Nakla Upazila in Sherpur. Of them, Tara has not been arrested yet.

International Crimes Tribunal-1 is scheduled to hear both the cases today.

For the first time, prosecution pressed charges against the former army official who was working for Pakistan army during the war, Prosecutor Tapas told The Daily Star.
