Pro-AL JU teachers to resist senate meeting
A faction of pro-Awami League teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday declared that they would resist the 37th annual senate meeting, scheduled for tomorrow.
The group made the announcement yesterday during a press conference at mathematical and physical sciences faculty premises on the campus.
The organisers said they would take position in front of the senate hall of the university from 8:00am tomorrow under the banner of “Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswasi Progotishil Shikkhak Samaj”.
Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder, president of the faction, said to comply with the university act of 1973, they had made demand to the vice chancellor, Prof Farzana Islam, to include three senate members in the syndicate and a member to the finance committee of JU.
Since the VC did not take any initiative to entertain their demand, they, along with registered graduate representatives, would resist all senate and syndicate meetings until their demands are met, he added.
The university's budget for 2018-19 fiscal year is scheduled to be placed tomorrow before the JU senate, headed by the VC.
