Prime accused gets six months' bail
The High Court yesterday granted bail for six months to Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in the Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque killing case, clearing the way for his release from jail.
Ekramul, 45, former president of the upazila unit of Awami League, was shot and burnt to death in his car in Feni town on May 20, 2014.
Victim's brother filed the murder case the same day with Feni Police Station accusing Minar and some 35 anonymous people.
Mahtab's lawyer Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury said that after disposing of a government petition, the Appellate Division directed the lower court concerned on March 19 to finish the trial in six months.
If the lower court cannot finish the trial, the court can consider bail to Mahtab, he said quoting the court.
