Police arresting BNP men out on bail
BNP mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker yesterday alleged that law enforcers are arresting BNP men who are out of jail on bail.
He also said the Election Commission is yet to ensure a level-playing field in Gazipur.
“Police are creating a sense of panic among the BNP men by arresting the party leaders and activists who came out of jail on bail. It's nothing but to create panic among the supporters so that they are afraid of carrying out electioneering,” district unit BNP president Fazlul Haque Milon told reporters, on Hasan Uddin's behalf.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Gazipur Russel Sheikh, however, denied the allegations. He said police were not arresting anyone without any arrest warrant.
Besides, he said, “Our drives against criminal activities and drugs are nothing but a routine work.”
Meanwhile, AL's Jahangir Alam claimed that the EC has already ensured a fair and peaceful election atmosphere in Gazipur.
