PM opens two CU halls
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday inaugurated two residential halls of Chittagong University through video conferencing from Gono Bhaban.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner of Chittagong in the presence of CU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and other CU teachers and employees and Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mesbah Uddin, among others.
"We have to give the utmost importance to education if we want to build a Bangladesh free from poverty…because without education, a country can never be free from poverty," said Hasina, while speaking during the inauguration.
The two new halls -- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Jananetri Sheikh Hasina Hall -- will hold 160 male students and 340 female students respectively.
CU now has 12 residential halls overall, said university sources.
