Satkhira Man's Disappearance in 2016

PBI probe finds police negligence

HC may hear the issue today

The police personnel showed serious incompetence and negligence as they did not record any case or general diary (GD) over disappearance of Mokhlesur Rahman Jony of Satkhira in 2016, a PBI probe report said.

The mystery of the incident was not unearthed as the police including the then Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Emdadul Haque Sheikh, sub-inspector Himel and Emdaddul's successor Firoz Hossain Mollah did not carry out their duties vested on them, said the report of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The image of police has seriously been damaged due to the “inefficiency” and “negligence”, it said.

The report recommended that departmental actions should be taken against the police personnel.

The PBI probe report was submitted to the High Court through the attorney general's office on Sunday in line with its earlier order.

The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah may hear the issue today, Deputy Attorney General Tapas Kumar Biswas told The Daily Star yesterday.

Mokhlesur Rahman Jony, a homeopathy doctor of New Market area in Satkhira, went missing on August 4, 2016.

In March last year, his wife Jasmin Nahar filed a writ petition with the HC, claiming that her husband went missing from police custody.
