Pahela Baishakh not in conflict with religion: PM

Terming Pahela Baishakh celebrations completely a Bangalee tradition, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday reiterated that the festival had no link with religion.
"Pahela Baishakh is the only festival which people of all religions celebrate together," she said. "It has no conflict with religion."
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The prime minister said this while inaugurating a musical dancing fountain and an amphitheatre at Hatirjheel Lake on the eve of Bangla New Year 1424.
Sheikh Hasina opened the largest musical dancing fountain in South Asia and amphitheatre through videoconferencing from her Gono Bhaban residence.
Hasina said everybody should stay alert so that Pahela Baishakh was celebrated in a peaceful and festive manner.
