Padma bridge construction will be visible from Dec

The construction of the Padma bridge will be visible from December, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader told parliament yesterday.

“The work for setting spans on piers of the Padma bridge will begin in December and January next year,” Quader said while replying to lawmakers' queries.

The minister said 38 percent of its construction had already been completed.

Replying to a query, Quader said the government was going to implement the country's 55km first expressway from Dolairpar point of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover to Bhanga of Faridpur via Buriganga-1 bridge and the Padma bridge.

He said a number of flyovers will also be built under the expressway project along with service lanes to expedite the road communication of south-western region.

On road accidents, he assured that the government was working to ensure safety on the highways by identifying black spots.

The 12th session of the 10th parliament that began yesterday will continue until October 10.

The decision came at the 12th meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the current parliament at the Jatiya Sangsad with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The meeting also decided that the Speaker will be able to either extend or reduce the working days of the current session.
