Pace of investigation frustrates family
Even after three months into the murder of Rajshahi University student Lipu, no significant progress was made in the investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, police on Friday got an official order to hand over the murder case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), confirmed Mahabub Alam, investigation officer of the case.
The handover process will be finished within two or three days, he said.
When asked about the reason behind the official order, he said, “For better probe.”
The victim's family members are getting frustrated over the slow progress in the investigation.
Lipu's father Badar Uddin said, “We want to see that the killers are punished as soon as possible.”
Talking to The Daily Star, his mother Hosne Ara Begum said, “I had sent my son for study there, but he returned home in a coffin. … What should I tell you now? I am just waiting for justice.”
“May no mother lose her child like me,” she wailed.
On the other hand, around 300 students from different departments of the university staged demonstrations on the campus yesterday demanding immediate arrest of the killers and fair trial.
Hossain Mithu, one of the students, said, “The whole family (of Lipu) is disappointed that the killers are yet to be identified.”
The students threatened to go for a tougher movement if their demand is not met.
On October 20 last year, Motaleb Hossain Lipu, 22, a second-year student of mass communication and journalism, was found dead in a gutter beside the three-storey Nawab Abdul Latif Hall on the campus where he lived. On the same day, Bashir Mollah, an uncle of Lipu, filed the murder case with Motihar Police Station against unknown people. In the case, police picked up Lipu's roommate Monirul Islam, a second-year botany student, and, later, showed him arrested after interrogation. But on November 8, he got bail from a court.
