One staff suspended, 13 transferred
One staff at government orphanage, Barisal Shishu Paribar, has been suspended and 13 others have been transferred after the committee formed to investigate torture on two girls found them guilty.
On July 4, Md Dulal, a health assistant of the orphanage, beat Akhi, 9, and Dalia, 10, with a stick. The incident came to light after an 18-minute video of the torture, filmed by someone inside the orphanage, went viral on the social media.
Dulal has been suspended. Twelve staff have been transferred to the boys' orphanage in Barisal while Ara Khanam, deputy superintendent, has been transferred to Manikganj and Manoj Kumar Gharami, deputy director, has been asked to show cause for negligence in duties.
The committee also found that the orphanage has been running through many irregularities including poor food and sanitation facility, unhealthy environment and inadequate security for girls and easy entrance for all. It also suggested formation of a regular monitoring committee.
