1,000 yaba pills surgically removed from peddler

Around one thousand pieces of yaba pills were surgically extracted from a drug peddler's abdomen in Barisal yesterday.

The peddler, Nur-e-Alam, 45, admitted to carrying the pills in his rectum after police detained him along with three of his associates during a raid in Rupatali area of the city early morning, said Nasiruddin Mallick, assistant commissioner (AC) of Barisal Metropolitan Police detective branch.

Following his confession, police took him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for surgery, he added.

Ikthiar Hasan, a surgeon at the hospital, told this correspondent that they found a tube filled with yaba pills during the surgery.

Nur-e-Alam -- son of Hasem Ali from Charsita village under Alexander Police Station of Laxmipur -- is a notorious drug trader, AC Nasiruddin said, adding that a case was filed with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.
