No injury marks on Jakir's body
Doctors yesterday said they found no injury marks on the body of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Jakir Hossain Milon who died on Monday.
The 38-year-old, a vice-president of JCD's Dhaka city (north) unit, was declared dead on Monday morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he was taken there from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Jakir was sent to the jail on Sunday afternoon after the completion of his three-day remand at the detective branch (DB) of police. He was arrested on March 6 from a programme of BNP at the capital's Jatiya Press Club.
After conducting his autopsy, Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic medicine department at Dhaka Medical College, yesterday said, “There was no injury marks on the body. We've collected blood, lung, kidney and brain samples for [further] tests.”
“We will prepare the autopsy report upon receiving the test results,” he added.
Mahbubur Rahman, jailer of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, said Jakir suffered a heart attack before he was sent to the hospital.
Jakir's family, however, alleged that Jakir died due to torture during the police remand and they noticed numerous bruises on his body.
The DB has refuted the allegation.
AIN O SALISH KENDRA EXPRESSES CONCERN
Ain o Salish Kendra in a press statement yesterday expressed concern over Jakir's death after the completion of his remand. Demanding a proper investigation to reveal the cause of his death, the rights organisation said such torture in the name of remand is against the law.
