No foreign films in cinemas during festivals: SC

Import, distribution and broadcast of all foreign films will remain suspended in cinema halls during the Eids, puja and Pahela Baishakh, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday.

However, joint-venture production films can be screened during the festivals, SC said. A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after a petition filed by Iftekhar Uddin Nowshad, president of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association.

Earlier, the HC prohibited import, distribution and display of foreign and joint production films.
