Why no compensation to parents: HC

The High Court yesterday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to pay Tk 50 lakh in compensation to the parents of a toddler, who was killed in a road accident in Dhaka on October 21.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the order and rule following a writ petition jointly filed by Children's Charity Bangladesh Foundation and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust.

Nabila was killed after she and her mother fell on the street from a rickshaw that was hit by a truck in Mohammadpur area. Police could not arrest the driver.

The court also directed authorities to submit particulars of the truck, its owner and driver by January 6 next year.
