Two women hang themselves in Khulna

A physical education teacher of Government Majid Memorial City College hanged herself from the ceiling inside her bedroom in Khulna city on Monday night.

Ishmita Mondal, 31, also left a suicide note reading, “No one is responsible for my death and I'm giving all belongings to my mother and donating my organs to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).” Ishmita lived with her sister Sushmita Mondal, a nurse of KMCH, said Momtajul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station.

He said, “After returning from work, Shushmita found the door of Ishmita's room closed. With the help of locals, she broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling.”

Police sent the body to KMCH for autopsy. Her sister Shushmita said they did not know why she might have committed suicide.

In Rupsha upazila, 18-year-old Bina Nandi, a high school dropout, has also hanged herself from the ceiling at her home in Shalpo Bahirdia village. Locals took her to the upazila health complex where she was declared dead yesterday.

Her father Bishnupada Nandi is a farmer. Rafiqul Islam, OC of Rupsha Police Station, said Bina had a quarrel with her parents and was beaten up by them on Monday night before she committed suicide.

Police sent the body to KMCH for autopsy, and a UD case was filed. Bina's family declined to talk to journalists.
