Three workers die after falling off building

Three workers have died after they fell from an under-construction high-rise in BNS Titumir area of Khalishpur, Khulna yesterday noon.

The deceased were identified as Md. Sayem, 20; Ramzan, 35; and Nur Alam, 18. They all hailed from Uttordesh Bari of Nilphamari district.

Solaiman Sheikh, a witness and co-worker of the deceased, told The Daily star that while they were plastering the exterior of the ten-storied building, the scaffolding broke and the three fell.

Dibbendu Sarker, on-duty doctor at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), told The Daily Star that the trio had severe head injuries and they all died before reaching KMCH.

Some workers alleged that the construction firm did not take adequate security measures for the workers.

Shadidul Islam, engineer of Waheed Construction, said they do not yet know the exact cause of the accident.

Sonali Sen, additional deputy police commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police told The Daily Star that the three construction workers fell off the ninth floor of the ten-storied under-construction building in BNS Titumir compound, and died on the spot.

“After filing an unnatural death case, police will investigate the accident,” said Sonali Sen.
