Police have arrested six people in Bhatara and Elephant Road areas of the capital on Tuesday night for stealing computers and other goods from Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.

Most of the stolen items, except for an air cooler as its parts were already broken, were recovered, Mostak Ahmed, deputy commissioner (Gulshan division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press conference at Gulshan Police Station yesterday.

The arrestees are Mostafa, 35, Dulal Mia, 34, Sajal alias Kalu, 22, Jahangir Alam, 45, Nimai Babu, 42, and Sekul Islam, 35.

“Kalu used to collect discarded bottles from behind Pakistan High Commission. Upon seeing a damaged part of the boundary wall, he devised the plan. He and his accomplices committed the burglary on November 22,” the DC said.

Three CPUs, four UPS, an air-conditioner and some other goods were stolen. Police identified the suspects from CCTV footage, he added.

Mostafa, Dulal and Kalu were involved in the theft, police said, adding that they also arrested the persons who bought the stolen products.

Earlier, Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka in a press release said burglars broke into its Consular Section on November 22 evening and took away computers containing official records and sensitive data.

The matter was immediately reported to police and an FIR was lodged.
