Sagar-Runi Murder: Deadline for probe report extended till March 31

Law enforcement agencies could not make any progress in solving the sensational murders of journalist couple Sagar and Runi in seven years.

The never-ending investigation has been shifted from one agency to another and the deadline for submitting a probe report was extended yet again by a Dhaka court yesterday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Debbrata Biswas passed the order asking Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to finish its investigation and submit a report by March 31.

The order came after Md Sahidar Rahman of Rab -- currently the chief investigator of the case -- failed to submit a probe report yesterday.

Earlier, on February 11 this year, Saleha Munir, mother of slain journalist Sagar Sarowar, spoke to The Daily Star and expressed her dissatisfaction over the probe.

She said that the case sees no progress due to the government's unwillingness and claimed that it has been buried in a preplanned manner.

“Law enforcers have dealt with other sensational incidents. Why are they failing in this case?” she questioned.
