Rab arrests four militant suspects

Rab yesterday claimed to have arrested four militant suspects from the city’s Dakkhin Khan area.

The arrestees are -- Sirajul Islam Mridha, 38; Moniruzzaman Monir, 40; SM Hafizur Rahman Sagar, 45; and Shafiul Moznabeen Tureen, 27.

They are active members of militant outfit “Allahr Dal”, also known as “Allahr Sarker,” said Sarwar-Bin-Quashem, commanding officer of Rab-1 at a briefing at its media centre in the city.

The militant group does not believe in democracy. It amassed huge amount of money and deposited it in different bank accounts. The group was waiting for an opportune moment to carry out destructive activities, the Rab official claimed.

The arrest came based on information given by four other operatives of the group, including the outfit’s acting Ameer, who were arrested by Rab on August 18 from the city’s Hatirjheel area.

According to Rab, one Matin Mehedi alias Mehedi Hasan formed the militant outfit in 1995. Sirajul joined the outfit in 1999. He used to deal with cases filed against the outfit members. Monir stepped into the militant outfit in 1997 and used to handle financial issues and recruitment of new members, it said.

A Khulna local, Hafizur joined the outfit through a friend and was involved in recruitment, while Shafiul was tasked with communicating and providing assistance to operatives in jail.
