Press is the fourth pillar of the state: info minister
Noted journalist and editor of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) Mahfuzur Rahman launched his first book, titled “Sangbadikota Raat Biraate”, yesterday.
In the book, Mahfuzur narrated the experiences of his extensive career in journalism and articulated some of his personal thoughts on different aspects of the field.
On the occasion, a programme was held at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, where Information Minister Hasan Mahmud unveiled the book cover as the chief guest.
“Everyone can speak, but few can write. Mahfuzur is one of those few… He brings up various topics of journalism in his book, which can be an important treatise for journalists,” said the minister.
People live through their writings. Many journalists are forgotten as they have not written anything special. Writing is not only for individual fulfilment; it enriches the society and the country’s literature, he said, while providing his reaction about the book.
He urged journalists to remain fair while preparing news and acquire professional excellence as much as they can, because the press is the fourth pillar of the state.
Former DU VC Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, DU Honorary Professor Shakhawat Ali Khan, and the book’s publisher Gafur Hossain also spoke at the programme.
