Opposition or government?
Jatiya Party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over election results, saying that the party was supposed to win in more seats.
Ranga also said the party's high-ups in a meeting will decide whether they will remain as the opposition or be part of the government.
“We're not happy with the election results as Jatiya Party was supposed to win more seats,” he said at a discussion at the party's Banani office.
Saying that a joint meeting of Jatiya Party's presidium members and newly elected MPs will be held at the party chairman's office today, Ranga said, “The meeting will decide whether Jatiya Party will be in the government or the opposition.
“We will also discuss the matter with the Awami League-led grand alliance,” he said.
He said though the results are not satisfactory, Jatiya Party is still the second largest party. “We will work to establish Jatiya Party as a democratic party in the days to come.”
Ranga, also state minister for LGRD, said now their main responsibility is to make the party better organised.
“We have to make preparations from now so that Jatiya Party can go to power in the next election,” Ranga said.
JP Presidium Member Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Vice Chairmen Raushan Ara Mannan, Alamgir Shikdar Lotan and Bahauddin Babul, among others, also spoke at the programme.
