Nasir, Omi get ad-interim bail
A Dhaka court yesterday granted ad-interim bail to Uttara Club Limited's former president Nasir Uddin Mahmud and his associate Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in an attempted rape and murder case filed by actress Pori Moni.
Dhaka's Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahzadi Tahmida passed the order, after a long hearing on a bail petition, court sources said.
The magistrate granted their bail till July 8, the next scheduled date of hearing.
But Nasir and Omi cannot walk out of jail now, as they are yet to get bail in another case filed with Airport Police Station under Narcotics Control Act, the defence said.
During the hearing, advocate Abdul Baten, a defence lawyer, told the court that their clients were not involved with the incident. Besides, Nasir is an old man and has been suffering from different ailments.
However, Md Hemayet Hossain, public prosecutor of Dhaka District and Sessions Judge's Court, opposed the bail petition, saying that both the accused sexually harassed the complainant and tried to rape her after assault.
Earlier in the day, the accused were produced before the court on completion of a five-day remand in the case. They were placed on remand on June 23.
On June 14, Pori Moni filed an attempted rape and murder case against real-estate businessperson and presidium member of Jatiya Party Nasir Uddin Mahmud, Omi and four other unknown people.
A team of detectives carried out a raid at a house in Uttara Sector-1 and arrested Nasir and Omi that day.
