Man held with 4.26kg gold at Ctg airport

Custom officials yesterday detained a man with 4.26 kilogrammes of gold, worth about Tk 1.80 crore, from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. 

The detainee was identified as Shaokat Akbar, 27, a passenger of flight BG-148 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which arrived from Dubai at 10:30am, said Mahbubur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House.

Acting on suspicion, the custom officials searched Shaokat's backpack and found a blender machine. The gold was hidden inside the blender, said Mahbubur.

The gold will be deposited to Bangladesh Bank, he added.

Process of filing a case against the detainee was underway till the filing of this report.
