Main duty is to win people's trust: police chief

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary yesterday said their main duty is to win the support and trust of people.

“We have to remove the fear of police from people's minds,” the IGP said while addressing the 44th Raising Day programme of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at the Rajarbagh Police Lines.

“If we can gain people's trust, only then our hard work will have paid off,” the police chief said.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Public Security Division Secretary of Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin and DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia also spoke at the event.

Earlier, officials of DMP brought out a Raising Day procession from DMP headquarters premises which ended at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

The home minister said they have been struggling to manage traffic in the city as construction work for metro rail, expressway and bus rapid transit projects are going on in full swing.

“The traffic problems will soon be over after the project works are implemented,” he added.
