Listed criminal arrested with arms, ammo
Police arrested two men including a listed criminal in the port city early yesterday.
Khulshi police detained Masud Kamal, 38, who is wanted in 17 cases filed over extortion, murder and drug dealing, during an overnight raid at his home in Kusumbag residential area.
Bijoy Basak, deputy commissioner (north) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said a team of Khulshi police started the four-hour raid around 1:30am.
They initially found 2,000 yaba pills in his possession, and based on his confession, recovered two light guns and five cartridges, he said.
Kamal is a “top extortionist” in Debarpar area, he added.
Assistant commissioner Sohel Rana, (AC-Bayezid), who led the raid, said Kamal used to extort money from landlords of three residential areas of Debarpar.
MUGGER CAUGHTRED-HANDED
Meanwhile, a patrol team of detectives arrested mugger Abdur Rahman, 38, with a light gun while he was robbing a man in Marine Drive area of Kotwali around 5:30am, said AC Jahangir Alam of Detective Branch (North Zone). Two cases were lodged over the incidents.
