Khaleda secures HC bail

The High Court (HC) yesterday granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed in Cumilla in 2015.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by Khaleda on October 15, after a trial court rejected her bail on September 13.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah said the government will file an appeal with the apex court challenging the HC order.

Khaleda, currently in jail, cannot get released, as she is shown arrested in few other cases, the DAG said.

The arson case was filed under the Special Powers Act for setting fire on a vehicle in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla during the anti-government agitation in January 2015.
