Expired meds worth Tk 2cr seized

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive seized huge amounts of life-saving medicines past their expiry dates, worth around Tk 2 crore, from three wholesale medicine shops in the capital's Mitford area yesterday.

Rab-10 and Directorate General of Drug Adminis-tration conducted the five-hour drive that ended at 12:30am, at a shop in Mitford Tower market and two other shops of Habib Market. Executive magistrate of Rab Sarwoer Alam, who led the drive, said they also seized 82,000 labels and packets which were being used to change manufacturing and expiry dates on the drugs.

A syndicate used to bring these from India and supply those to medicine shops and hospitals using new labels, he said, adding that they are trying to arrest owners of the seized medicines. 54545454
