Ex-lawmaker Malek's death anniv observed

The third death anniversary of Abdul Malek, a freedom fighter and Liberation War organizer, was observed in Sarishabari upazila yesterday.

Malek, lawmaker from Sarishabari constituency in 1970, was a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He played a vital role in inspiring the youth to fight for the 1971 war.

Malek also became lawmaker from Awami League in 1973. He was born in Sarishabari's Barobaria village in 1931 and died on January 19, 2016.

A discussion and a doa mahfil were held at Shimla Bazar in the upazila headquarters.

Manjurul Islam Bidyut, president of Sarishabari Upazila unit of Muktijoddha Santan Command, presided over the discussion.
