Delegation of UK mission meets Khashru, Nowfel

A two-member delegation of the British High Commission yesterday held separate meetings with Awami League candidate for Chattogram-9 Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and BNP candidate for Chattogram-11 Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury in the port city.

Abu Zaki, head of political section, and Ezazur Rahman, political analyst of the embassy, met the two.

Asked about their discussion, Khashru, a standing committee member of BNP, told The Daily Star that they mostly discussed the present situation ahead of the polls.

The delegation members declined to comment. 

Emerging from the meeting, AL Organising Secretary Nowfel said the delegation inquired about the reason behind the arrest of BNP candidate of Chattogram-9 Shahadat Hossain.

“They wanted to know whether Jamaat-e-Islami can cause any violence during the election,” Nowfel said. “I told them although Jamaat is not a registered party, their armed cadres have taken refuge in BNP. They might be able to do something [of that sort]...”he added.
