Customs official, wife sent to jail

A Chattogram court yesterday sent a customs official and his wife to jail in connection with a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Senior Special Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha sent Amzad Hossain Hazari, assistant revenue officer (ARO) of Chattogram Customs House and his wife Halima Begum Lipi to jail after the couple surrendered before the court.

“The couple surrendered to the lower court following a High Court,” said Advocate Mahmudul Islam, Public Prosecutor of the anti-graft watchdog.

Earlier, the HC denied bail to Amzad and his wife in connection with the case.

On January 3, ACC filed the case with Double Mooring Police Station accusing the couple of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
