Court asks IGP to take action against SI

A Dhaka court yesterday asked the inspector general of police (IGP) to take action against a sub-inspector for relieving a prime accused from a murder case.

Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 passed the order while delivering the verdict.

The judge said SI Shahabuddin of Motijheel Police Station, also the investigation officer of Abdul Latif murder case, dropped Mohammad Ferdous from the charge sheet, even after four other accused mentioned him in confessional statements. “The IO relieved Ferdous from the charges intentionally,” he said.

The judge also asked him to submit a supplementary charge sheet after collecting correct addresses of two other accused.

The tribunal sentenced Moazzem Hossain and Mohammad Babu to death while gave life imprisonment to Akir Hossain, Md Monir Hossain, Amir Hossain and Aziz for killing Abdul Latif in March 2005.

Of them, Moazzem, Babu and Aziz were present in the court while the others are absconding.

According to the case statement, in March 2005 Abdul Latif was killed by a gang of robbers on Ferdous's directive.
