Clinic employee run over by ambulance
Four people were killed in separate accidents across the country in the last two days, report our correspondents and a news agency.
In Sylhet, a hospital staffer was killed in a motorbike accident at Golapganj municipality area of Golapganj upazila yesterday afternoon, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
The deceased was identified as biker Mintu Ahmed (35). He was an employee of a private clinic in the upazila.
A Sylhet-bound ambulance from Beanibazar upazila hit Mintu’s motorcycle, leaving him critically injured, witnesses said.
He was rescued by locals and rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital by another ambulance. However, he died before he could reach the hospital, Mijanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Golapganj Police Station said.
“Police have seized the ambulance and are looking for the driver. No case has been filed with the station in this regard yet”, the OC added.
Meanwhile in Chattogram, two people were killed after their motorcycle collided head-on with a microbus on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Lohagara upazila on Saturday night, reports our staff correspondent from Chattogram.
The deceased are Bishal Barua (18) and Uttam Barua (24), both hailing from Chhedirpuni of Adhunagar in Lohagara upazila, said police.
Liton and Uttam, both working in a motorcycle garage in the upazila, were returning home after duty by a motorbike. Around 11pm, a microbus coming from Cox’s Bazar collided head-on with the motorbike, killing the duo on the spot, said Yasir Arafat, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station.
Police seized the microbus but the driver managed to flee, he added.
“We are conducting drives to arrest the driver,” said the OC, adding, “A case is being filed with the police station in this regard.”
In Lalmonirhat, a man was killed after being hit by a tractor at Saptona in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Doyal Chandra, a resident of Bholabari village in Aditmari upazila.
Quoting locals, Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Doyal was walking towards the Medical intersection when the sand-laden tractor hit him from behind around 11am, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, the OC said.
