Barishal SI closed for taking bribe

A police officer was closed for allegedly taking bribe in Barishal on Sunday night.

Sub-Inspector Mosharaf Hossain of Banaripara Police Station was closed to the district police lines, said Saiful Islam, superintendent of police in Barishal.

On January 26, a police team led by SI Mosharaf seized two bottles pesticide, of which dates had expired, from a retailer Sima Pandey at Murarbari Bazar in Banaripara upazila.

At that time, the SI allegedly threatened to arrest her if she did not give him Tk 50,000, said the SP.

Later, Sima gave him Tk 30,000 and promised to give the rest of the money on next Sunday, he said.

During primary investigation, they found the SI guilty of committing the offence, said the SP.

The police officer returned Tk 30,000 to the trader, he added.

Departmental action will be taken against him after further investigation.

Local lawmaker Shah-e-Alam said on allegation from the retailer, Sima Pandey, he requested Akramul Hasan, assistant superintendent of police (Banaripara Circle), to take action.

SI Mosharaf Hossain did not respond to repeated phone calls made by this correspondent.
